The Power of Thought
The next most important thing after a proper foundation of Eat Move Sleep is the power of your own thoughts. Current scientific findings are piercing the veil of just how powerful the thoughts we think can be on our reality. Evidence is mounting that these changes are not subjective mood changes but actual changes to the very expression of our DNA with the ability to pass these altered genes down many generations.
from Wikipedia:
Epigenetics is the study of heritable changes in gene function that do not involve changes in the DNA sequence.[1] The Greek prefix epi- (ἐπι- "over, outside of, around") in epigenetics implies features that are "on top of" or "in addition to" the traditional genetic basis for inheritance.[2] Epigenetics often refers to changes in a chromosome that affect gene activity and expression, but can also be used to describe any heritable phenotypic change that does not derive from a modification of the genome, such as prions. Such effects on cellular and physiological phenotypic traits may result from external or environmental factors, or be part of normal developmental program. The standard definition of epigenetics requires these alterations to be heritable,[3][4] either in the progeny of cells or of organisms.

Why does it matter?
Epigenetics shows us that some, or maybe a lot, of what we might call personality may very well expressions of our ancestors. Irrational fears may be the easiest to identify and has some of the strongest science behind it. There have been studies to show that if you teach a mouse to fear the smell of cherry, by associating it with a loud noise or shock, that up to 6 generations later the decedents were still irrationally afraid of the smell of cherry.
This has profound implications on our ability to control gene expression and provides the motivation to take a look at what we think about and how that may affect our lives

Dr. Wayne Dyer
“Remind yourself daily that there is no way to happiness; rather, happiness is the way. You may have a long list of goals that you believe will provide you with contentment when they’re achieved, yet if you examine your state of happiness in this moment, you’ll notice that the fulfillment of some previous ambitions didn’t create an enduring sense of joy. Desires can produce anxiety, stress, and competitiveness, and you need to recognize those that do. Bring happiness to every encounter in life, instead of expecting external events to produce joy. By staying in harmony on the path of the Tao, all the contentment you could ever dream of will begin to flow into your life—the right people, the means to finance where you’re headed, and the necessary factors will come together. “Stop pushing yourself,” Lao-tzu would say, “and feel gratitude and awe for what is. Your life is controlled by something far bigger and more significant than the petty details of your lofty aspirations.”
